Straps on the Fringe (Geraldine Wharry)

Fringing has been a key design detail for several seasons so we examined what the key update would be for this trend with "long legs". Where is this evolving in the future? 

Inspired by contraption, strapping and cutting ties loose, designers look to strait jackets and hacked surfaces. 


The Ones 2 Watch, Enigma / Christopher Shannon SS17


 
The garment is tied and untied over and over again in an almost obsessional pattern, reminiscent of the traditional strong garments used to confine the arms of a violent prisoner or mental patient. Sleeves are extra long and can almost be tied together.

There is a sense of rebellion, contrasted with traditional suiting fabrics and given a casual interpretation with denim belt loops, lacing and sports taping.
