Top 5 colours - Fall/Winter 2022-23 (Livetrend)

Published
Mar 28, 2022

Of nature and future. FW22 collections balance their colors between heritage and future, focusing on classic tones and introducing newer nuances for a more digital taste. The overall set up of the shows manifests that the intense dopamine dressing of previous seasons is giving way to more somber nuances and powdery tones, adding longevity to collections. Dystopian design themes of goth, grunge and dominatrix styles emphasize the use of intense blacks, while other staples, including pure whites, grey and neutrals provide a contrasting sense of serenity. Green and pink continue to lead the fashion colors, while blue and purple are announcing their big returns.

Looking closer at the fashionable shades, colors played a mimicry role by driving nature-centric narratives: Earthy and warm tones mirror the soil, burgundy recalls winery notes and roots, as well as blush pinks and faded yellows that represent the subsoil, the mycelium, as our primary life source. At the same time, fashion is moving into a new digital era, where screen-colors consider the impact of an online world. By augmenting the vividness of colors, including red, green and blue, new tones feel boosted and more impactful when perceived from our digital devices. Driven by the same enriched future aesthetic, a cooler lilac note is set to embody the metaverse and its phantasmagoric mood. Similarly, these strong colors stress a more vibrant attitude, seeking for better times.
