Walmart Inc said on Friday it has acquired online lingerie retailer Bare Necessities for an undisclosed amount, its second apparel-focused acquisition in less than two weeks as it seeks more inroads into online fashion.
Walmart on Tuesday said it will acquire Eloquii, a plus-sized fashion startup, for an undisclosed amount as it continues to look for ways to appeal to younger shoppers and differentiate from rival Amazon.
Wal-Mart Stores said on Monday it will offer Hudson’s Bay Co-owned department store chain Lord & Taylor dedicated space on its website, as it looks to make deeper inroads into the fast-growing online fashion business.
For its third annual event, TheCurvyCon will take place during New York Fashion Week. In addition to its array of panels and pop-up shops, the plus-size fashion convention will host a live-stream on Yahoo Style.
Bonobos founder and CEO Andy Dunn will also join Walmart to oversee the retailer's digitally native vertical brands. The Bonobos acquisition is part of Walmart's plan to enhance its e-commerce presence.
Despite its high-profile purchase of jet.com last year and spate of e-tail acquisitions, the 800-pound gorilla of retail is running hard to play catch up in a segment where it is neither the biggest nor the best.
