Matalan’s Sporting Pro chain unveils first 10 locations

Following its launch in August, Matalan’s sports fascia Sporting Pro has announced its first ten store locations across the UK. Though exact dates have yet to be disclosed, stores are due to open their doors before the end of autumn.

Locations in Walsall, Coleraine and Harlow are expected to open within the month, followed by stores in Colchester, Leeds, Knaresborough, Stockton, Sheffield, Stockport and Wakefield. In total, the brand has said 14 Sporting Pro stores will open their doors before Christmas.

Head of Sporting Pro and former JJB chief executive, Tom Knight, said: “Our first stores are near completion and we’re looking forward to seeing the public’s reaction. A tremendous amount of planning and imagination has gone into creating sport stores that offer shoppers something different.”

As a member of Intersport, a brand management and buying organisation that operates worldwide, Sporting Pro will carry brands such as Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Asics, Reebok and Under Armour. Stores will be divided into sections for team’s sports, outdoor, racket sports, running and junior.

The store’s online offering is slated to go live late September.
