Top Shop welcomes Biba designer

Published
Jun 3, 2009

Mythic English brand from the 60s and 70s, Biba, is above all one woman : Barbara Hulanicki. At seventy-three the designer is making her comeback with a collection for Top Shop.

Barbara Hulanicki for Top Shop

Fresh, feminine, evanescent, the collection will contain around twenty items. Skirts, blouses, mini dresses, loose-fitting trousers, beachwear, scarves, hats and simple cotton bags. Quite simply, a perfect range for the summer. In one colour, leopard print or covered in motifs, there will be a style to appeal to all girls, romantics as well as rockers. Barbara Hulanicki has sparkled and succeeded here, even following the fact that investors attempted to relaunch her brand under licence in 2006 without success.

Will fans of Biba from its early days like Raquel Welch, Twiggy, Yoko Ono or even Mick and Bianca Jagger come rushing back in droves? It’s possible, with prices of the range at €18 for a tank top and up to €125 for a leather jacket. This unexpected collaboration has succeeded in the manner that Top Shop does so well.
