Tommy Hilfiger accused of copying logo from Spanish brand

Tommy Hilfiger is facing a legal battle in Spain, after a hat company called Tolentino Haute Hats accused the American fashion house of plagiarising its logo.

Tolentino

Accessories bearing a TH logo are being currently sold in Tommy Hilfiger stores, online and in concessions in El Corte Ingles department stores in Spain.

The Spanish milliner trademarked its logo, made up with the letters T and H forming a cross, eight years ago. The emblem is inspired by the cross of Caravaca.

In October 2017, representatives of the company contacted Tommy Hilfiger Spain about the issue after seeing a product line featuring a logo that was remarkably similar to the one trademarked by Tolentino.

But the Spanish arm of Tommy Hilfiger has denied the allegations of a trademark infringement, prompting Tolentino Haute Hats to take legal action against the company, FashionNetwork.com can reveal.

According to sources close to the matter, a trial will be held on 21 February to establish precautionary measures that could force Tommy Hilfiger to temporarily remove the offending products until the end of the legal process, which could last more than a year.
