The Brooklyn Museum to host Eric N. Mack’s debut NYC solo exhibition

Columbia, Maryland-born textile artist Eric N. Mack’s first New York City solo exhibition Lemme walk across the room will open in The Brooklyn Museum’s Great Hall on January 11.

According to a press release from the institution, the exhibition will feature installations of new and existing textile pieces by the emerging artist, which are “hung, mounted, and draped in dynamic conversation with the classical architecture of the Museum's Great Hall,“ making for a site-responsive presentation.

Based in New York, Mack takes inspiration from both art and fashion to explore the boundaries between painting and sculpture, using materials such as hand-dyed textiles, photos and magazine clippings to create works which are then hung, draped or suspended in such a way as to encourage the viewer to move around the exhibition space, provoking them to question the relationship between their body and the pieces on display.

The artist has previously exhibited in London’s Simon Lee Gallery and Morán Morán, LA, among others, and has participated in group exhibitions at Bogota’s Galeria Casas Riegner, the Andrew Kreps Gallery in New York, and Milan’s Spazio Maiocchi, where his work was displayed alongside that of Virgil Abloh, Collier Schorr and Camille Henrot.

Lemme walk across the room is curated by the Brooklyn Museum’s assistant curator for contemporary art Ashley James and will run January 11 through July 7, 2019.
