Spanish fashion exports reach €15.6bn in 2018

The value of Spanish fashion exports remained broadly flat in 2018, totalling €15.61 billion compared with exports of €15.64 billion a year earlier. The figure, which includes exports of clothing, fabrics and different materials, represents a 0.19% decline, according to the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX).




In December, the value of fashion exports fell 5.84% reaching €1.078 billion. The last month of the year was the second weakest after June, when the value of fashion exports amounted €1.06 billion.

Meanwhile, total imports totalled €19.24 billion in 2018, growing from €18.95 billion a year earlier.

Exports of leather goods increased to a total of €1.23 billion last year from €1.206 billion in 2017. In December, exports of leather goods fell by 1.4% to €95.8 million.

Footwear sales abroad generated €2.81 billion, representing a slight decrease compared with footwear exports of €2.82 in 2017. December was also the weakest month for footwear, with exports reaching just €171.6 million, while March was the strongest with the value of exports totalling €304.8 million.

Total Spanish exports amounted €285 billion, up 3.21% on 2017. And total Spanish imports reached €318.8 billion, down by €33.8 billion.
