Sky chief Jeremy Darroch to exit Burberry board

Luxury brand Burberry has announced changes to its board of directors including the appointment of a new senior independent director.

Carolyn McCall will replace Sky CEO Jeremy Darroch, who will not not stand for reelection at the company’s upcoming AGM on 15 July.

Darroch has been a senior independent director at Burberry since 2017 and he served as chair of the audit committee from August 2016 to February 2019.

According to the fashion group, he is stepping down from the board due to his other executive commitments.  He has been the chief executive of British media and telecommunications conglomerate Sky since 2007.

Darroch has considerable expertise in the consumer retail environment. Prior to joining Sky, he was group finance director of Dixons Group and he also spent 12 years at Procter & Gamble in a variety of roles in the UK and Europe.

Commenting on his departure, Burberry chairman Gerry Murphy said: "On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Jeremy for his outstanding contribution to Burberry's development over the last six years. We shall miss his wisdom and experience and we wish him the very best for the future.”

Carolyn McCall, who has been an independent non-executive director at Burberry since 2014, will assume the role of senior independent director on 15 July. She is currently the CEO of British television channel ITV, a role she has held since 2018. Prior to that, she was CEO of EasyJet and CEO of Guardian Media Group. In 2016 she was awarded a damehood for services to the aviation industry.
