Selfridges launches kidswear rental, will add skiwear after adults' offer boomed

With fashion product rental expanding at a fast pace, the cost of high-end labels to buy upfront accelerating and with investment in designer kidswear increasingly costly because of the speed at which children grow, the opportunities for kidswear rental are huge.

So it's no surprise that luxury British department store Selfridges is expanding into the area with the launch of its first kidswear rental collection.

The retailer said that it's offering a “hyper-curated edit” across occasionwear, outerwear, streetwear and changing bags that has been selected by its buying team.

Sizes start at six months and rise to 16 years with items available for four, eight, 10 and 20-day periods. Prices start at £20 for a four-day rental.

The brand offer includes a number of luxury labels such as Self-Portrait, Off-White and Kenzo.

And later this year, the offer is set to expand to include children’s skiwear. The company launched adult ski rental last year and that accounted for a third of total Selfridges rentals in the AW21 season. Again, with children likely to grow out of expensive skiwear very quickly, the retailer said that the rental proposition represents a more planet-friendly option.

Once again, company is working with rental specialist Hurr to power the new initiative as part of its Reselfridges eco drive.
