Roxy collaborates with Biotherm on cosmeto-textiles

At Roxy, winter 2015-16 will be all about shea butter and a dash of apricot oil. The Quiksilver-owned women’s board sports brand isn’t opening a beauty salon... but it is dipping its toes into cosmeto-textiles.

Roxy has announced the launch of a range of products developed in collaboration with Biotherm cosmetics. Dubbed Enjoy & Care, it includes neck warmers and jackets and will be available in stores in September, 2015.

It took more than a year for both companies to develop the offer, which is designed to protect against dryness and irritation while nourishing skin. While tights and jeans incorporating slimming creams are certainly familiar, Roxy has focused instead on skin protection.

"Microencapsulation enables the introduction of moisturizing ingredients though miniature capsules,” explains the brands. "These microscopic capsules are then incorporated into the fabric and break due to friction between the fabric and skin. The fabric incorporating these capsules is called cosmeto-textile." The companies stated that the fabric can be washed 15 times at 104°F before the effect wears off.

"We are constantly looking to improve the technology of our products to better protect our customers from the cold, wind, dry air and friction. With this innovation, we are increasing skin protection," said Francois Latterrade, head of global outerwear at Roxy. “Roxy is opening a promising new cosmeto-textile market within action sports."

The neck warmer will be available for between 24.95 and 34.95 euros. For Quiksilver, this first collaboration should lead to other opportunities. The group has explained that it already plans to release further Enjoy & Care products. It has also mentioned the development of a sun protection range dedicated to athletes by Biotherm Men.
