Rosa Clará and Yolancris celebrate edgy brides

Rosa Clará has returned to the Barcelona catwalk once again this spring. Playing a crucial part in the official Valmont Barcelona Bridal Week calendar, the Spanish brand presented its new 2020 collection in the morning of Thursday 25 April. And ending the third day of the event was Yolancris, another Spanish label, showcasing a collection with subversive and bohemian vibes.
Rosa Clará selected Llotja del Mar, a neoclassical building located on Paseo de Isabel II that was once a fish market, to host a catwalk show for her dresses, which aim to “recover a higher degree of sophistication in bridal fashion”. The show presented several lines and up to 40 styles, including gowns inspired by the Art Deco movement with linear lace and delicate micro embellishments, new skirt patterns, and innovative fabrics such as extra-soft tulle, silk satin and textured jacquard.
The architectural theme that frequently runs in Rosa Clará’s designs was reinterpreted this season by using crepe that was light as a second skin, as well as guipure lace and macramé inserts to show off the models’ frame.
Spanish singer Rosalía was in charge of setting the mood, with her flamenco and reggaeton tunes forming the soundtrack that completed the fashion show attended by Spanish top model Eugenia Silva, fashion influencers, Pelayo Díaz and Belén Hostalet and even a group of women known as the Barça WAGS, formed by the wives and girlfriends of FC Barcelona players, the team that is expected to win the league this Saturday. Rosa Clará, who made her debut in the bridal space in 1995 with the opening of her first store in Barcelona, has currently more than 4,000 stores in over 80 countries.
A video by Nina Simone opened the Yolancris fashion show, the last event of the day on Thursday, at Fira de Barcelona. Under a ‘No Fear’ theme, Yolanda and Cristina Pérez’s brand was inspired by the counterculture movements of the 60s and 70s. Influenced by Janis Joplin, Patti Smith and Tina Turner, the dresses could have easily been part of Jane Birkin or Bianca Jagger’s wardrobes. The presentation of the 2020 collection also included the launch of ‘B by Yolancris’, a new bohemian line for brides with rock ‘n roll or vintage sensibilities who are not afraid to wear fringes, feathers, see through fabrics, hats and cowboy boots on their wedding day.
The runway show was the first presentation hosted by the firm since its show during Paris Haute Couture Week, which was held at the end of January this year. The brand's production is now equally split between bridal and prêt-à-couture, as its designer told FashionNetwork.com earlier this year. And Yolancris wants to become one of the leading brands on the official Paris Haute Couture Week calendar. If the intricacy of its bridal designs is anything to go by, the label has plenty of potential to realise its ambition.
