Printemps to open first outlet location in September

The signage has already been installed. Nestled between Furla and De Fursac, the debut Printemps outlet will open its doors in autumn. Marking the expansion, the French retailer has chosen to set up shop at the recently opened McArthurGlen Provence centre, which opened last April in France's Miramas.

Printemps, which is due to present more details surrounding the projet closer to September, is expected to open a 1,000-square-metre space. It will be the largest in the centre, which already hosts 120 stores over 25,000 square metres. The department store's new retail format will join Polo Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Guess, Tommy Hilfiger and The Kooples.

Counting 22 stores in France, Printemps -- which is does not yet have an e-commerce site, is trialling a new method of retail. The discount strategy was first initiated in 2014 by Galeries Lafayette, which opened its first One Nation store, in the west of Paris, to sell its brands' last season collections. The rival major department store chain in France, which opened its sixth outlet location in the Alsacien mall of Roppenheim, announced it is looking to open another ten outlets in the short term.

The two retailers risk finding themselves at loggerheads in the discount market: France today boasts just 20 discount brand centres.
