Philosophy recruits Lorenzo Serafini and returns to Milan

Published
Oct 10, 2014

Philosophy has found a new creative director. Lorenzo Serafini will be taking over the creative direction of Alberta Ferretti's second line as of the Fall/Winter 2015-16 pre-collection, announced the label in a press release. He succeeds British stylist Natalie Ratabesi, who left Philosophy this past June.

The Aeffe Group has thus set its sights on the young Italian designer. A designer who is yet to become a familiar name, even though his résumé is already quite impressive and his creations will soon be on centre stage.

With a diploma from the NABA school of design in Milan, Lorenzo Serafini worked for the Roberto Cavalli women's ready-to-wear line for ten years before moving on to Dolce&Gabbana, where he started as creative manager of D&G's sophomore line (no longer in creation) before becoming the label's lead womenswear designer.

"The group's aim has always been to value the creativity of new talents," recalled Massimo Ferretti, President of Aeffe, which notably owns the brands Alberta Ferretti and Moschino. Last year he called upon Jeremy Scott to re-launch Moschino, and young talent Fausto Puglisi to guide Emanuel Ungaro's style and Cédric Charlier's line, both of which the group produces under license.

"This appointment marks the strengthening of the creative reorganisation of all of our brands started a few seasons ago and successfully projects the group into the future," he also stated.

With the arrival of the designer, Philosophy will be returning to the Milan catwalks after having spent six years in New York. This return was strongly desired by creative director Lorenzo Serafini, according to whom Milan is starting to once again be an important place for fashion.
