Newbie opens Gatwick Airport store

Newbie, KappAhl's sustainable babywear brand, has selected Gatwick Airport for its first retail store outside London.

The six-month pop-up store opened on Wednesday 13 November, breaking sales records for the childrenswear label in the UK.

“Building a store on these conditions has been an exciting challenge for our fantastic team: the store is only 25 square meters in size, round to the shape and has no walls - but wow, how well we made it and the location is prime,” said Camilla Wernlund, international expansion manager at Newbie.

“Sales started immediately and customer feedback was that they love Newbie,” she added.

Part of Swedish fashion chain KappAhl, Newbie first launched in the UK in 2017 and currently operates seven physical shops and one online site.

It also has a presence in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Poland, where it sells its range of baby clothes that are “designed to be handed down from one generation to the next”.

KappAhl, which has been listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange since 2006, has recently received a public takeover bid by majority owner Mellby Gård AB.
