NEW YORK, Aug 17, 2007 (AFP) - A shoe store so large it requires its own postal zip code opened in New York's upmarket Saks department store Friday, August 17th promising to satisfy even the needs of Manhattan's designer-hungry shoppers.

The new store, known by its zip code 10022-SHOE, takes up an entire floor of the Fifth Avenue mega-boutique, offering more than 100,000 pairs of shoes spread over almost 1,000 square meters (10,000 square feet) of floor space.

"I only had time for two pairs. I took one pair of Jimmy Choo and one of Gucci, but I'll come back later," said one happy shopper, Cindy Darrell.

"We have 100,000 pairs of shoes, designed by 50 of the most famous designers," including Christian Louboutin, Stuart Weitzman and Miu Miu, explained sales manager Susan Johnson.

Among models on show for Friday's opening were a pair of Chanel boots with a 3,600-dollar price tag. Other models included red patent Salome shoes, ballerina pumps with crystal beading and lizard-skin boots.
