New Pringle menswear director to make brand more ‘contemporary’

Published

Pringle of Scotland has announced that Turin-born Giuseppe Marretta has joined the knitwear label as menswear design director.

Pringle of Scotland

Marretta has been working with the luxury brand since April, and his first collection will launch during Paris Fashion Week Men’s, according to media reports.

Often referencing his passion for architecture, art, movies and pop culture in his designs, Marretta has strong fashion and knitwear experience under his belt. He was most recently head of knit and jersey at Giorgio Armani, working closely with the brand’s eponymous founder to develop knitwear for the womenswear collection.

He was also previously acted as consultant designer to brands including Brioni, Corneliani, Isaia, Agnona and Zanone, and learned the skills and techniques of knitwear at Ermenegildo Zegna.

Commenting on his appointment, Giuseppe Marretta said: “I’m incredibly proud to join Pringle of Scotland. It is a company with one of the longest histories in the fashion industry, and it’s amazing to have the opportunity to evolve such a rich heritage into a contemporary brand. Pringle’s strong knitwear DNA is very much the heart of the brand, as well as the heart of my design passion. I’m honoured to be able to contribute to the next chapter of Pringle history.”

Jean Fang, brand CEO, added: “We are delighted to have Giuseppe join the Pringle family. Menswear has already played such an iconic part of the brand and its history, and Giuseppe has the experience, knowledge and passion for knitwear to evolve this famous history for a contemporary audience and the way men wear knitwear and premium essentials today.”

Specialising in cashmere knitwear, Hawick-based Pringle of Scotland was founded more than 200 years ago in 1815.
