When two long-established family firms meet, the match can hardly fail to be a success, judging from the result of the collaboration between Italian fashion label Missoni and Spanish espadrille specialist Castañer. Together, the two labels have created a jolly, amusing collection of espadrilles and handbags, in which bright colours predominate.

Angela Missoni, the Italian label and knitwear specialist’s creative director, had fun in concocting a new version of the famous Castañer platform espadrille, adopting a bright colour palette with striking contrasts and an abundance of geometric patterns, including the zigzag motif that is Missoni's hallmark.

The Missoni x Castañer pre-collection for the Spring/Summer 2019 features a total of 15 women’s models and four men’s models, available in stores from December. The women's models come in a variety of heel heights with platform soles and ankle straps, and as the classic flat espadrille.

The collaboration shines a spotlight on the craftsmanship of these two labels, which together add up to over 150 years of history. Castañer was founded in 1927 in Banyoles, Catalunia, by Luis Castañer and his cousin Tomàs Serra, while Missoni was created in 1953 nearly 1,000 km away, in Gallarate, close to Milan, by Rosita and Ottavio Missoni.
