McarthurGlen to build designer outlet in Malaga

Published
May 24, 2017

Outlet mall owner, developer and manager McarthurGlen, has obtained building permit from Malaga City Council to build a designer outlet in southern Spain.

McArthurGlen has recently opened a new designer outlet in Provence in the South of France - DR

The outlet mall will have 170 stores including some of the world’s most sought-after luxury brands, as well as international and local brands, over a gross lettable area of over 30,000 sq mts.

The retail scheme will be developed by McArthurGlen in partnership with international property company Sonae Sierra and involve an investment of 115 million euros. Construction works are expected to begin in the next few months, with the first phase delivering 100 stores by the end of 2018.

“This is a very significant step in the development of the project. With the beginning of the construction works, visitors will be able to witness progress of one of the most innovative retail projects in all of Spain, which will significantly improve the retail offering in southern Spain and will attract an increased number of tourists to the region as well as creating jobs in the local community,” said José Luis Arenas, Development Manager for McArthurGlen Spain.

McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Malaga marks the company’s first entry into the Spanish market and takes the total number of McArthurGlen centres to 25 worldwide.

Situated next to the A7 motorway linking Malaga to Marbella, the designer outlet will be a 90-minute drive away from nearly three million people, and only three minutes by train from Malaga International Airport, the fourth largest airport in Spain receiving 14 million passengers a year.

The outlet mall will feature an open-air village style, designed to reflect the local Andalusian architecture, landscaped walkways, dancing fountains, a central luxury plaza, and children’s playground facilities.
