Spanish fashion brand Mango has promoted Margarita Salvans to the role of chief financial officer. The executive, who has worked at the company since 2013, takes over from Josep Barberá, who is set to leave Mango to pursue a personal project.

Mango said Salvans has held several senior positions within the business, overseeing various functions across store management and finance. Most recently, she led the finance department, helping support the company during its transformation process.

Her appointment marks a significant milestone at Mango. Salvans will be the second woman to join the management committee, joining Elena Carasso, who serves as director of e-commerce and customer service.

“We want to promote the internal talent that exists at Mango and this appointment is in recognition for good work,” said Mango chief financial officer Toni Ruiz.

With a BA in business administration and management from the Universidad Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, and an MBA from the IESE Business School, Margarita Salvans has a wealth of experience. She spent many years at Boston Consulting Group, as well as Caixa Cataluña, where she was responsible for the areas of pricing and management control.

She joins the company at a time of significant financial uncertainty, with Covid-19 forcing Mango to close many stores across Europe for several weeks. On 20 April, the fashion brand revealed it will start to reopen some stores in various countries, including Austria, the Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Georgia, Letonia, Ukraine and Cyprus.

By the end of April, the business will have reopened approximately 620 stores. In-store trading is crucial for the company, which generated record sales of 2.37 billion euros in 2019.
