Macy's to donate coats this winter with Clothes4Souls

(Relaxnews) - In need of a winter coat? You could help out someone in need by picking one up at Macy's.

The department store has teamed up with the nonprofit organization Clothes4Souls to launch its annual "The Big Give Back: Buy a Coat & We'll Donate One" campaign on November 4, running through November 6. The retailer will donate one brand new coat to the non-profit organization for every one purchased in the men's, women's, juniors' and children's outerwear departments during that time, with a limit of 35,000 coats in total. Coats donated through the program will be distributed in cities across America.

"The ‘Buy a Coat and We'll Donate One' campaign is one of our favorite campaigns of the Macy's holiday season," said Sam Harrison, Macy's vice president of corporate communications, giving and volunteerism, in a statement. "By encouraging customers to shop for a cause, we reinforce our belief in the wonder of giving at a time when people need it most. Our partnership with Clothes4Souls has allowed us to provide warmth, hope and dignity to men, women and children for more than six years and we are excited to continue doing so with the support of our vendors, customers and local communities."

The longstanding collaboration has seen Macy's donate $8 million in coats, helping more than 200,000 people, since 2013. Brands participating in this year's edition include Calvin Klein, DKNY, GUESS, Lauren Ralph Lauren, London Fog, Michael Michael Kors, Sebby and Weatherproof, among many others.

As a division of Soles4Souls, Clothes4Souls aims to fight poverty by collecting and distributing clothing. It works with homeless shelters, after school programs and international disaster relief organizations to provide clothes to those who need them, domestically and around the world.

Macy's is not the only company concerned with keeping people warm this winter: earlier this month, Moncler strengthened its ‘Warmly Moncler' project in collaboration with UNICEF, with the Italian-based clothing label set to donate basic necessities including medicines, newborn kits and thermal blankets, hats and gloves to children living in some of the coldest countries in the world, such as Mongolia and Nepal.
