London Designer Outlet Black Friday sales beat pre-pandemic level

Published
Dec 7, 2022

The point at which brands, retailers and destinations equal or exceed key measures from before the pandemic is being closely watched and Wembley Park’s London Designer Outlet has just hit a key milestone on this front.

Recent Black Friday sales at LDO exceeded pre-pandemic levels as “consumers scrambled to secure greater value on gifts in the run-up to Christmas”.

The figures from LDO’s developer Quintain showed an “astonishing” 85% surge in menswear sales compared to three years ago, while sportswear rose 30.3%, beauty and health 11% and homeware 2.2%”.

Total sales across the premium fashion outlet between Sunday 20 and Saturday 26 November rose to £2.462 million from £2.460 million during the same week in 2019. Of course, three years of inflation have to be taken into account, but it’s still an impressive figure given the current cost-of-living crisis.

This year’s sales during Black Friday week made it the second-best week of the year and sixth biggest ever at LDO.

Quintain Retail Director Matt Slade said consumers are increasingly turning to outlets and discounted retailers in order to cuts costs in the run up to the festive season.

“Shoppers are becoming far more vigilant about where they can go in order to purchase the same high-quality gifts for family and friends at the lowest possible prices,” he said. “These strong sales figures, therefore, point to an increasingly cash-conscious consumer that wants to make every penny count while ensuring their families enjoy a fulfilling festive season.”
