Kith partners with Barbie in honor of the doll's 60th anniversary

Uber-chic streetwear brand Kith is celebrating Barbie’s 60th anniversary with a special retrospective made in collaboration between Kith Women and the iconic doll.

Opened on September 21 inside the brand's SoHo flagship, the retrospective has filled the store with museum-quality displays of Barbie dolls throughout the ages, as well as a special styling station where dolls can be adorned in a variety of outfits, including custom-made, Kith-branded Barbie apparel.

At the styling station, select visitors are invited to participate in a special styling contest (entry to the contest was by appointment only, and the brand announced on Instagram the day before the retrospective’s debut that all appointment slots had been filled).

According to a Hypebae report, participants can choose from four Barbie dolls to style, using pieces from an 80-item collection. After styling, a photo of the doll can be submitted and then judged by Kith founder, Ronnie Fieg; director of Kith Women Jackie Kim; and stylists, Dianne Garcia, Maeve Reilly, and Ade Samuel.

After the judges pick the top six dolls, the outfits will be published on the @kithwomen social platform where the public will vote on the best look. The winning doll will become the official limited-edition Kith x Barbie doll, set to be released in late 2020, added Hypebae.

All those who enter the running will receive a commemorative Kith x Barbie t-shirt (while supplies last, the brand clarified via Instagram).

The styling contest will run through September 29, while the retrospective will remain open through October 2. Walk-ins are welcome but not guaranteed access, the brand said.
