Ivanka Trump sales reportedly skyrocket despite retailer pull out

After Donald Trump was sworn in as President of the United States, retailers such as Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and Burlington dropped the Ivanka Trump brand from its stores and websites citing poor performances. The Wall Street Journal reported that the Ivanka Trump brand’s sales fell by a third at Nordstrom.

Despite being dropped by major retailers, London-based e-commerce website Lyst reported that the brand is performing extraordinarily well, with sales increasing 346% from January to February this year.

Sarah Tanner, US Spokesperson for Lyst told the BBC, "To see such an extreme spike in one month is completely unheard of and came as a huge surprise to us." Sales for the Ivanka Trump fragrances, Ivanka Trump Eau de Parfum Spray for Women and Ivanka Trump for Women Roller Ball, are also reported to have skyrocketed on Amazon, and in February held the number one and two spots on Amazon Beauty.

In an interview with Refinery29, Abigail Klem, President of the Ivanka Trump label, withheld sales figures but said that most of the products are sold to women in New York, California and Texas that earn between $60,000 to $100,000 a year.

Ivanka in January said she would leave her eponymous fashion line to support her father and her husband, Jared Kushner, in their roles in office. She reevaluated her role at her company after having received backlash for promoting one of her products during a 60 Minutes interview. Kellyanne Conway, the counsellor to President Trump, received similar flack and was accused by the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) for breaking ethics rules by promoting Ivanka Trump products during a live interview.
