On September 1, Issey Miyake opened its new “Good Goods Issey Miyake” store in Daikanyama, Tokyo, stocking a curated selection of pieces from the various Issey Miyake lines.

Good Goods Issey Miyake just opened next to the Homme Plissé Issey Miyake store in Daikanyama, a lively shopping district in Tokyo. The store offers a selection of “good goods”, a selection of products from Issey Miyake’s different lines as well as some products made exclusively for the store.

The two storey store of 94 square metres has a futuristic look designed by Tokujin Yoshioka and is next to the Homme Plissé which was designed by Naoto Fukasawa.

”The space, which features aluminum dyed light green, is designed with the futuristic contrast of texture between concrete and aluminium,” explained Yoshioka in a press release. “Diagonal slits extended throughout the space not only show futuristic expression, but also transform to function as shelves. Issey Miyake’s innovative spirit of making things is reflected in the space.”

The store is designed to allow hangers displaying clothing to be easily re-arranged on the interior walls which are diagonally striped with thin green aluminium. The store incorporates light from outside to create a bright and open space.

The new store retails products such as the “Solid Bag” and “Trunk Pleats Bag” from the Me Issey Miyake line, “Phantom Bag” from the Issey Miyake line, “Wrap Suede Bag” from the 132.5 Issey Miyake line, and products from the Bao Bao Issey Miyake line. There are also exclusive colours available for existing products such as t-shirts printed with the logo designed by art director Asaba Katsumi and Issey Miyake’s new Gaston Canvas print. In future, the store will experiment with rotating brands and products with the season.

In recent years, “bulky” Issey Miyake bags that are flat or folded have become popular with overseas customers as souvenirs and as brand entry items and are stocked in the store. The store is also designed to sit in harmony with its neighbour Homme Plissé and appeal to the discerning customers of Daikanyama.
