Harrods on Tuesday opened the latest in its chain of H Beauty stores with a debut in Gateshead’s Metrocentre.

The 30,203 sq ft space brings together products from a diverse portfolio of big-name brands and lesser-known labels, as well as services. Like the other H Beauty locations, the store has been designed as an “experiential playground” for “beauty novices and experts alike”.

The company said the latest addition to the H beauty portfolio reflects its “commitment to creating luxury shopping experiences” for “new communities across the UK”.

The Gateshead launch follows four successful store openings in recent years, with the first having been at Lakeside retail centre in Essex, the second at centre:mk in Milton Keynes, the third at St James Quarter in Edinburgh, and the fourth at Cribbs Causeway in Bristol

It puts Harrods in that select group of retailers that are currently in physical space expansion mode at a time when others are downsizing post-pandemic.

And it’s a major move for the company that for decades was mainly known as a single-site department store.

Annalise Fard, Director of Beauty at Harrods, said: “The launch of our fifth H beauty store in Gateshead, marks another incredible milestone for Harrods. The expansion of our standalone H beauty stores showcases our commitment to bringing elevated retail beauty shopping experiences to communities outside of London.”
