Guy Laroche changes artistic directors

Published
Jan 26, 2015

Guy Laroche is undergoing some changes in terms of its style. In a brief statement, the house has announced "the appointment of Adam Andrascik as artistic director, in accordance with the revival of the House." The designer, who is largely unknown to the general public, comes from the British avant-garde.

He will oversee Guy Laroche’s women’s ready-to-wear beginning with the fall-winter 2015-16 season. His first collection will be unveiled on March 4th during Paris fashion week.

Adam Andrascik

The American designer succeeds Marcel Marongiu, who has overseen the artistic direction of Guy Laroche since 2007. The house didn’t explain the reasons for his departure nor did it expand upon its plans for a revival.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Andrascik graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York in 2006, before moving to London, where he still lives, to study fashion design at Central Saint Martins. At the prestigious school, he was friendly with Simone Rocha, Thomas Tait and Jackie Lee, studying under the supervision of the late and great Louise Wilson and earning his master’s in 2010.

Andrascik launched his own eponymous label in 2011, after having been showcased by London department store Selfridges as part of its Bright Young Things talent initiative. After London, he presented in Paris in September for the first time. His new role at Guy Laroche, to which he "hopes to bring a new creative energy," may cause him to put his own line temporarily on hold.

"I admire and I feel very close to Japanese and Belgian designers," Andrascik, who highly esteems the fashion designer Martin Margiela, told FashionMag.com. Known for his deconstructed and sculptural cuts, Adam Andrascik is terse when it comes to defining his style, offering only three words: "Work in progress”.

Founded in 1957, the high fashion house Guy Laroche is currently overseen by Hendrick Penndorf. It was acquired in 2004 by Hong Kong YGM Trading Group, which also owns the British label Aquascutum, and has only one directly-managed store on rue François 1er in Paris (8th arrondissement), in which its ready-to-wear is meant to be sold exclusively
