Gucci’s Alessandro Michele to receive 2015 International Designer Award

Published
Nov 15, 2015

The British Fashion Council will award Gucci’s Creative Director, Alessandro Michele, in recognition of the year's remarkable achievements in his role at the Italian fashion house. Michele will be presented with the 2015 International Designer Award just11 months after he took the reins as Creative Director at Gucci in January.

The 2015 International Designer Award will be presented to Alessandro Michele at the British Fashion Awardson November 23 - British Fashion Council

“In the nine short months since Alessandro took up his new role, he has presented four collections that have caught the attention of the industry and consumers alike, and have set the fashion agenda, confirming Gucci's position as a truly directional fashion house,” said the British Fashion Council in a statement.

Natalie Massenet MBE commented: “Alessandro Michele is a phenomenon at Gucci. His exciting eclectic aesthetic has made an overnight impact on global fashion trends. It is not just that he has made the brand covetable and the product so desirable. He has also reinvigorated the retail experience bringing back playfulness and magic to the flagship store. This is a man who has his customer in his heart and celebrates them."

Alessandro Michele, 42, began his career at Fendi as a Senior Accessories Designer and moved on to Gucci in 2002. At the Italian powerhouse the designer held a variety of roles, including Director of Leather Goods Design and Associate to the Creative Director. On January 21 he was appointed as Gucci’s Creative Director, following Frida Giannini’s abrupt exit.

Since then he has been responsible for all of the Italian company’s fashion collections, as well as its global brand image. Michele has been recognized for returning the desirability to the fashion house with his modern take on romanticism, creating a compelling new narrative for Gucci.

The 2015 International Designer Award will be presented to Alessandro Michele on November 23, at the British Fashion Awards at the London Coliseum.
