The Global Footwear Retail Conference returns this week on Thursday, March 31, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The 2016 edition of GRFC will focus on Global Trade and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the Millennial Fashion Customer, and the Future of Footwear E-Commerce. The Millennial Customer topic in particular will discuss the millennial consumer’s expectations and behaviors in regards to their implications on the retail business model, and the Future of Footwear E-Commerce topic will cover current trends and possible driving forces for the future of e-commerce, including sales, cross-border platforms and cyber security.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership discussion will cover the new deal as a whole, as well as how it will affect the consumer. The trade deal was signed in February by 12 nations, including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States and Vietnam. The TPP deal took 5 years of negotiations before reaching the signing phase, and it will need further negotiation to reach the final pact and a two-year ratification period.

Many countries, because of its secrecy, opposed the TPP as well as how it may reduce access to affordable medicines and grant foreign investors the right to sue if they feel their profits have been impacted by law. The GRFC discussions of the TPP will kickoff the conference on Thursday.

The Italian Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with APLF Limited, launched the Global Footwear Retail Conference in 2015 to discuss critical issues facing the retail industry. The inaugural conference focused on the US and China, the two largest footwear markets.

The Global Footwear Retail Conference will commence on Thursday, March 31, at 10am at Meeting Room N107, Level 1, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Hong Kong.
