Ganni gets B Corp Certification with high score

Published
Sep 21, 2022

B Corp Certification is increasingly a must-have for fashion brands and Ganni is the latest to achieve that accolade, gaining a 90.6 point score. That’s a high for any contemporary fashion label.

Ganni

Its best score across the five key areas was 29.1 points under the environment heading following its extensive work with the certified organic, lower-impact and recycled fibres that are used for much of its output.

That said, the restrictions of the B Corp framework meant it got no points for some of the work it’s been doing (such as its carbon insetting scheme) and it said it hopes certain projects can be included in future. It’s targeting 150 B Corp points by mid-decade if such projects do make the grade.

Despite accusations of greenwashing against a number of fashion brands and retailers with some turning out to be less green than claimed, B Corp certification is designed to give consumers confidence due to its rigorous application process involving over 300 questions regarding the business in five key impact areas.

It covers governance, workers, community, environment, and customers and companies gaining the certification have to invest in continuous improvements and show real commitment to their social and environmental impact.

Ganni founder Nicolaj Reffstrup said: "I have been hoping for industry-wide auditing for years because sustainability initiatives are still largely unregulated. As long as our politicians keep proving they don’t have the guts to push the green agenda forward via legislation businesses are left to regulate themselves.

“B Corp offers a tangible and transparent framework for keeping businesses accountable and setting industry benchmarks. [It’s] a testament to all the work our team continuously puts into this journey of becoming the most responsible version of ourselves. Receiving 90.6 points is worth celebrating, however, there is still a long way to go.”
