Former Sports Direct boss Dave Forsey, 55, has become managing director of fast-growing Revolution Beauty, five years after he left the sports retailer that he’d joined at the age of 18.

He actually joined the business last year, but the news has only just been released via social media, although no further information has been released. It’s his first major move outside of the sportswear arena after he’d spent decades as Mike Ashley’s “right-hand-man” at Ashley’s Sports Direct, which is now known as Frasers Group.

The eight-year-old company, which was founded by Adam Minto and Tom Allsworth, sells mainly through Instagram and Superdrug concessions. Its year-end 2019 results included sales of £120 million but a pre-tax loss of £8.3 million as it invested in expansion in Australia. Last year, the company struggled in the face of changing beauty purchasing habits due to the pandemic and it raised £15 million in new funding.

The news of Forsey’s MD role was reported by The Times, which also said that he’d been a freelance consultant since his departure from Sports Direct in 2016.

It said the new post puts him in competition with SportFX, a fitness-focused make-up brand launched by Matilda Ashley, the daughter of Frasers Group chief Mike Ashley.
