Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy works to stabilise company with hiring spree

Flipkart is working to regain stability following the departure of its co-founder and Flipkart Group CEO Binny Bansal. CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy is expected to continue to hire senior executives for the company.

Following Binny Bansal’s recent departure from Flipkart, TNN has reported that the business’ CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy has been in negotiations to fill senior roles in Flipkart and stabilise the company. Some of the senior positions have been vacant for some time but the issue has become more pressing with Bansal’s departure.

Vacant positions include of chief technology officer (CTO) and chief product officer (CPO) after Punit Soni left as the position of CPO in 2016. Krishnamurthy has been taking on a lot of the work from vacant roles but appears to believe that this is not a long-term strategy.

On Saturday, one hiring was found to have taken place as the Times of India reported that Flipkart had hired Smriti Singh as head of HR after the role was un-filled for a year and a half. Singh will step into her new role next month.  

Flipkart has officially stated that Krishnamurthy has no plans to meet with leading head-hunters to fill roles but TNN reported that a source said that some firms have reached out independently to Flipkart about the situation. “We have an enormous focus on getting top talent and talent acquisition at all levels and grooming will continue to be in line with these plans, which we only see being accelerated in future," a Flipkart spokesperson told the Times of India.
