Birmingham’s massive Bullring and Grand Central mall complex has a new general manager with an impressive retail sector background.

Dan Murphy brings more than 15 years’ senior management experience to the role, latterly as GM of the Merry Hill shopping centre in the West Midlands.

He has also held senior positions at the Trafford Centre mall in Greater Manchester, Intu in Derby and with property agency JLLHe replaces Stephanie Lacey who was Bullring and Grand Central GM for nearly four years.

Murphy said: “Over the years I’ve watched as the destination has become not only a landmark for Birmingham and the centre for local communities but centre stage for world events such as the Commonwealth Games.

Ahead of the centre’s 20th anniversary in 2023, Murphy added: “I’m looking forward to working with the team to create new experiences that will engage and excite our customers in ways they’ve never seen before. 2022 was just a flavour of what’s to come.”

New concepts set to open next year include a new M&S taking an anchor space across two floors at the former Debenhams store, the Midlands’ largest JD Sports store and a new Tessuti branch, that business now being owned by Flannels parent company Frasers Group.
