EBay reportedly launching fashion site for 2014

Published
Jul 1, 2013

The U.S. giant is currently working to launch a new fashion-only e-commerce website in summer 2014. According to the British press, the eBay site will initially be developed exclusively for mobile use.

The site would only be built out for desktop Internet use in a second phase. While the website name is still a mystery, its positioning will come from high-end, high street brands and luxury designers. Drapers mentions that discussions are under way with retailers Reiss, Karen Millen and Marc Jacobs. How the labels would be paid is still being sorted out.

While eBay currently has no comment on the story, it is clear that the company has been paying more attention to fashion in recent seasons. The sector is posting sales close to those recorded by high-tech products. “The eBay fashion page is the best illustration of the richness of our inventory. It is working very well and allows us to change the perception of eBay, to highlight what we really are today,” said François Coumau, eBay general director for Southern Europe (Italy, Spain and France) to FashionMag already a year ago.

EBay has over 116 million active users worldwide and about 400 million online ads. The company generated 14 billion dollars in revenue last year through business that now reaches 190 countries.
