Dolce & Gabbana links with Persol on eyewear collab

Published
May 10, 2022

Two Luxottica eyewear brands are linking up for a special collection this season with Dolce & Gabbana joining Persol for a 2022 collab as sunglasses resume their seasonal importance due to the world reopening for travel to sunshine destinations.

But the four-piece the collection isn’t only about sunglasses and also includes two optical frames.

All four styles, “encapsulate the essence of the two Italian brands in an original way, combining aesthetic research and expertise”, we’re told.

The four models are available in two different sizes and perform what we’d expect to be a tough feat of combining “Persol’s minimal style… with the irreverent style of the Italian fashion house”.

For instance, the classic D-frame, featuring the front of the 649 model, is “enhanced by transparencies, logo details and colour combinations inspired by the brand’s stylistic codes, from Havana to Persol black, from the Zebra pattern to the colourful universe of Dolce & Gabbana”.

Interestingly, the accompanying campaign shows it's more than just two brands lending their names to a collection with the eyewear illustrated through a gallery of portraits produced by Domenico Dolce with the creative direction of Stefano Gabbana.

The campaign shots “depict the new models with a touch of exuberance. At the centre of the lens, the all-encompassing concept of inclusivity expresses an energetic, pop mood that speaks to today’s youth”, Luxottica said.

The minimalist shoot “takes inspiration from the street, involving different, cosmopolitan personalities: close-ups of young people capture an urban style that is casual, yet sophisticated”.
