Designers Remix bans fur and leather

Published
Feb 4, 2019

Danish fashion label Designers Remix is dropping all fur and leather from its collections from Pre-Fall 2019 onwards, it has announced.

The label joins a slew of fashion brands ditching the material in favour of more ethical options, incuding Burberry, Gucci and Farfetch, alongside a ban from institutions including London Fashion Week. The move comes shortly after Copenhagen Fashion Week announced its intentions to become Europe’s most sustainable fashion week.

Creative director Charlotte Eskildsen commented: “If we say we sincerely care about the environment, we need to take responsibility for the animals who live in it too. Out creativity is not limited by this ban, it just won’t include leather and fur any more. None of the materials are in line with the sustainable future I want to pursue for Designers Remix.”

Designers Remix owners Charlotte and Niels Eskildsen, who recently bought back a 51% stake from the IC Group in the label, have striven to make the brand a leader in sustainability since it was founded in 2002. Previous initiatives have included its Autumn/Winter 2018 collection made of 30% sustainable materials, and the launch of the label’s Designers Remix Preloved project in 2017, which reused second-hand Designers Remix clothing contributed by customers. The label has been a participant of the UN Global Compact Program since 2007.
