Classic Football Shirts becomes Burnley FC sponsor

Published

Greater Manchester business Classic Football Shirts has become the major sponsor for England Championship football club Burnley for the 2022/23 season.

The Hyde-based company replaces betting firm Spreadex as the club’s key sponsor, with its name adorning a new retro-style club shirt, which should strike a chord with fans looking for something on-trend.

Burnley FC, which was relegated from the Premiership last season, said the new home shirt is a celebration of the classic kit from the ‘Clarets’ 1991/92 title winning season.

"In an exciting development, this year’s campaign will be the first time in Burnley Football Club’s history that the men, women and academy teams have shared a front-of-shirt sponsor, marking another important milestone for the Club”, it noted.

The latest development for the Classic Football Shirts business, established in 2006 by Matthew Dale and Doug Bierton, reflects its recent success, with both turnover and profits surging during its latest financial year.

Documents seen by BusinessLive revealed the company's turnover jumped from £11.9 million to £18.2 million during the period, while its pre-tax profits also rose to £3.8 million from £1.3 million.

Dale said: "We’ve had a great working relationship with the club for the past eight seasons and it will no doubt be a special moment seeing the players run out for the first time with our sponsorship adorning this iconic design."

Bierton added: "We hope to make a lasting impact on the local community and football as a whole via our unique partnership as the Ccub embarks on an exciting new chapter."

Burnley FC chairman Alan Pace also said: "I’m thrilled to continue our successful relationship with Classic Football Shirts and welcome them as official shirt sponsor for the season.

"We all appreciate how important kits are to fans [and] Classic Football Shirts epitomises this. A football kit can ignite memories and take you back to a special moment in an instant, this is why we are delighted to make a nod to our history with this year’s retro style home kit and partnering with Classic Football Shirts is the perfect fit.

"The collaboration is perfectly timed in the year that we celebrate Burnley FC’s 140th anniversary and together, we have some fantastic events and unique activations planned for the season ahead to tell the story of and celebrate our great club and the iconic kits that have been there along the way.”

The home kit will be available to purchase online and at the Clarets Store on 29 July, with the men’s first team debuting the kit in the first game of the Championship season against Huddersfield Town on the same day.
