China Cup - Tecul design competition announces new features for 2019

Published
Nov 14, 2018

A panel talk at Shanghai fashion trade show Mode, led by leading figures from the Chinese fashion industry, kicked off a new season of the graduate fashion competition ‘China Cup - Tecul’, announcing a series of upgrades to the mentoring programme.

Open to fashion design students born after 1995 from universities across Asia, the competition’s panel of judges will now include more well-known fashion experts and international heavyweights, artists, entrepreneurs and media professionals.

For 2019, a men’s fashion design category will be added, and a special ‘Dream Fund’ will be established for the winners. There will be also opportunities to present at Tokyo Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week, and the best designers will receive 20,000 to 30,000 yuan ($2,880 - $4,320) to continue building their education abroad.

Entries have opened for the design competition, with a list of 30 nominated designers expected to be revealed in January. The China Cup awards ceremony will take place in April 2019 during Shanghai Fashion Week, and the Best Commercial Value award will be announced in October.

China Cup has also signed a collaboration with reality TV show Fashion Master - dubbed the Project Runway of China - to present a series of live masterclasses.
