Carolina Herrera to stage first ever destination runway show in Rio

Published

Carolina Herrera will be staging its first-ever runway presentation outside of New York City on 1 June. The luxury label will decamp to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil to unveil its Resort 2024 collection.

Creative Director Wes Gordon said Rio was chosen as it’s “an inspiring city for so many reasons. The lively colour palette, the unique blend of its universally loved music, the breathtaking Modernist architecture of Oscar Niemeyer, and the exuberance of its traditions”.

And he added that the label has Latin origins so a city like Rio with its “extraordinarily rich heritage, diversity and blend of cultural backgrounds,” is “our chance to explore that DNA from a different geographical and cultural vantage point, out of deep respect and admiration”.

The show will happen at sunset of the first day of June at a yet-to-be-announced location, with the multi-day activities set to culminate in a party celebrating the global launch of the new Good Girl Blush Eau de Parfum. The company actually launched its Good Girl Dot Drama scent in the city in 2019.

And as is usual these days, rather than it just being a celebration of luxury, the company will also link up with Spectaculu, a not-for-profit organisation founded in Rio de Janeiro, offering professional training in creative industries for underprivileged young people.

The label will continue to show its Fall and Spring runway shows in New York as part of the official New York Fashion Week schedule.
