Buro 24/7 announces new CEO, London relocation

Digital company Buro 24/7 is moving swiftly on after the polemic departure of its founder Miroslava Duma last month following a string of scandals.

The company has announced Nick Smith as its new CEO, effective immediately, and relocated its global headquarters to London. Smith will oversee all operational and commercial activity for the group, which owns digital media platforms and offline brand extensions in 11 markets, and a majority stake in fashion magazine System.

He will be also responsible for the upcoming launch of the group’s creative and content marketing services agency this year.

The new CEO has a wealth of experience in the media sector, having driven the expansion of Vogue Australia, GQ Australia and Buro 24/7’s Australian site as Prestige and Lifestyle Director for News Corp Australia.  Prior to that, he was Editor-in-Chief of GQ Australia for five years.

At Buro 24/7, the Australian executive will work with System co-founders Elizabeth von Guttman, Alexia Niedzielski and Jonathan Wingfield, to drive expansion into new markets, and increased cross-platform investment in the System magazine brand.

“I'm delighted to join Buro24/7 with a new home in London,” says Smith, “It’s a company of assets with immense potential for expansion in the luxury, fashion and lifestyle categories around the world.”

System magazine co-founder Elizabeth von Guttman added: “We’re excited for the new leadership and expertise that Nick brings in brand dynamism, audience and commercial growth. With this new leadership team in place, along with our expansion plans for Buro24/7 and System, plus the creative and content innovation offered to clients through our agency, we have a winning formula for success.”

The company, co-founded by Miroslava Duma, who on 23 March announced she was leaving the company amid racism controversy, has opened its new global headquarters on Great Marlborough Street.

The move has involved a series of new appointments, including former head of Digital at Dazed Group, Matt Jones as Digital Director; and former head of brand creative and content at Topshop, Patrick Waugh as Digital Creative Director. Lesley Czuma also joins the team as expansion director.
