Bulgari celebrates 50 years in America

Half a century ago, Bulgari followed the money—at least the kind that buys jewelry—to New York. To mark the 50th anniversary of the Italian family jewelry business expansion to the United States, the brand has launched a limited-edition capsule collection of its iconic Monete collection, the U.S. Golden 50.

The Monete collection was initially the brainchild of Nicola Bulgari, who was a keen ancient Roman coin collector and launched the style in the 1970s. He combined money from antiquity with contemporary jewelry designs for a motif that has been vital for the brand. The U.S. Golden 50 18-karat gold collection consists of a Sautoir necklace, pendant necklace, flip ring, Tubogas cuff, chain link bracelet, and coordinating chokers, one of which is encrusted with pave diamonds.

To celebrate, the brand hosted a party in New York held at the swathed-in-gold Jazz Club at the Aman, a luxury hotel and private residence in the massive 1921 Crown Building that also houses Bulgari’s New York flagship. Guests such as Katie Holmes, Ella Emhoff, Duckie Thot, Ivy Getty, and several high-profile media industry guests listened to the smooth musical stylings of Dev Hynes, Brian Newman, and DJ duo Angel & Drew. On hand were Nicola Bulgari and Bulgari North American President Herve Perrot to welcome guests who also got a peek at some heritage pieces from the Seventies. A few items were jeweled with Old Glory’s stars and stripe motifs.

Gianni led Bulgari with brothers Paolo and Nicola in the early Seventies. It was Gianni’s vision to decide to embark on the expansion into the States to open the brand’s North American outpost. They set up shop initially in The Pierre on East 61st Street, then moved to the location at the corner of 57th Street and 5th Avenue, where it has been since 1989.
