Alastair McKimm is Global Editor-In-Chief of i-D

Published
May 8, 2019

Vice Media has named Alastair McKimm as Global Editor-In-Chief of i-D, the new content chief joining in June with “a remit to drive the editorial vision and growth of the brand across all parts of i-D’s global business, as well as continuing to build i-D as an innovative digital-first brand.”

Alastair McKimm is the new content chief at i-D

Having previously been the brand’s Fashion Director, he knows it well and publisher Lucy Delacherois-Day said: “Alastair is a part of the i-D family so it felt like the natural next step to look at how he can further embed his incredible experience of the industry and bring his creative style to this global brand. He has a deep understanding of fashion and luxury industries. The focus on emerging talent remains as true as it did when it was launched - supporting young talent across fashion, photography, styling, journalism and design and this will continue to be a big focus of Alastair’s.”

The brand, which will be 40 years old in 2020, has managed to maintain its irreverent, ‘outsider’ image, despite its position as a bona fide part of the UK’s (and world’s) luxury publishing segment and McKimm will need to steer it carefully to enable it to make the most of revenue opportunities available in the luxury segment while keeping its offbeat look and feel.

McKimm started out his career nearly 20 years ago at i-D where he worked as a Fashion Assistant to former Fashion Director and now British Vogue Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful. In 2013 he took on the role of Fashion Director for the brand, where he served for five years. Both his promotion and Enninful’s move to Vogue highlight the trend for fashion-focused publishing brands to choose their leaders from among those with a strong Fashion Director background.

McKimm joins not only as the brand prepares to celebrate a major anniversary but also as it makes more key senior appointments. Delacherois-Day herself is new as Publisher of the global brand. She’s been promoted from Commercial Director where she led commercial operations for both i-D and Garage.
