Abercrombie announces partnership with Zalora

Published
Apr 11, 2017

Abercrombie & Fitch is looking east, announcing this week a wholesale partnership with Zalora, one of Asia’s largest e-commerce platforms.

The company's shares rose 3.2 percent to $12.06 in pre-market trading last quarter - Reuters

This partnership will bring both Hollister (Abercrombie’s sister brand) and Abercrombie’s distinct California style to Zalora’s consumer base. Hollister items will launch this month at Zalora, with Abercrombie & Fitch products to hit the e-commerce store soon after.

Fran Horowitz, Chief Executive Officer of Abercrombie & Fitch told the press in a release, "We are looking forward to partnering with Zalora to build on our strong base of loyal customers across Southeast Asia. We work hard to connect with customers wherever, whenever, and however, they prefer to shop and we continue to invest in relationships and innovation to support that."

Zalora currently caters to eleven countries in Asia, including Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Philippines. It boasts a customer base of 600 million.

Abercrombie has had a rough few years, shuttering 54 stores in 2016, with an additional 60 to shutter in 2017. But things are looking up for the brand with Abercrombie reporting a 1% rise in comparable sales at Hollister last quarter, a big surprise after analysts predicted a 0.7% drop.

Abercrombie also revealed an upheaval of its senior staff, bringing in former Club Monaco executive  Aaron Levine to be the SVP of design, and appointing ex-J.Crew SVP Ashley Sargent Price to be the Creative Director of Marketing.
