Victoria's Secret to open first Scottish high street store

H&M’s loss looks to be Victoria’s Secret’s gain with the US lingerie giant set to open its first high street store in Scotland this year via an opening on Glasgow’s Buchanan Street.

It will be moving into what was previously a branch of H&M and has just been granted planning permission to convert the site.

Victoria’s Secret has had limited exposure in the city until now with a small unit at Glasgow Airport selling only a limited selection of its product offer and clearly missing out on non-travelling potential customers.

The company had originally applied to the local council back in July last year as it plans to make alterations to the store front and had also sought permission to display illuminated and non-illuminated signage. Work is expected to start shortly, although we don’t yet know an opening date for the site.

It will be an important addition to what is known as Glasgow’s ‘style mile’ and will represent major competition for other lingerie retailers in the area.

But while the brand will move into a store previously run by H&M, the Swedish giant hasn’t abandoned the area. Last autumn it took a unit for Monki in Buchanan Galleries, which was the brand’s first physical store site in Scotland.

Buchanan Street is a major draw for fashion shoppers and a report last year said it was one of the big winners over the Black Friday period seeing the second highest footfall uplift in the UK over that weekend.
