Safilo and JCPenney renew licence deal for Liz Claiborne eyewear

Italian eyewear group Safilo, specialised in premium and sport labels, and US apparel and furniture retailer JCPenney have renewed for another five years the licence deal for the design, production and distribution of Liz Claiborne and Claiborne sunglasses and eyeglasses collections, respectively for women and men, in the USA and Canada.

The contract renewal is a key element of Safilo's strategic plan for 2020, which targets a rate of growth for the eyeglasses segment that is proportional to that of sunglasses, allowing Safilo to expand in synch with market trends.

Liz Claiborne and Claiborne are highly popular brands in the eyeglasses segment with US independent opticians and their customers, and the licence deal renewal will ensure the brands' continued development. Safilo first featured Liz Claiborne and Claiborne in its portfolio in 2003, and since then they have been a source of consistently positive results.

The Safilo group has 7,500 employees and distributes its products in approximately 100,000 select retail outlets worldwide: opticians, optometrists, ophthalmologists, retail chains, department stores and other specialised retailers. The group owns and operates 7 manufacturing sites - four in Italy and three between Slovenia, the USA and China - as well as 3 main logistics hubs (in Padua, Denver and Hong Kong). Safilo runs directly owned subsidiaries in 40 countries, from North and Latin America to Europe, the Middle East, Africa, China and the Asia-Pacific region. In the fiscal year 2016, the group generated a revenue of €1.2 billion.

Safilo’s portfolio includes own brands like Carrera, Polaroid, Smith, Safilo and Oxydo, and licensed brands including Dior, Fendi, Boss, Céline, Fossil, Givenchy, Jimmy Choo, Marc Jacobs, Max Mara, Pierre Cardin and Tommy Hilfiger.
