Narciso Rodriguez to skip runway for private showings

Published
Jul 27, 2017

Joining other major fashion designers in abandoning the typical runway show format, Narciso Rodriguez will forgo his usual show at New York Fashion Week and present his Spring 2018 collection at private appointments instead.

For years Rodriguez has staged his runway show on Tuesday evening of New York Fashion Week, but for his Spring 2018 collection the designer is trying something new. Instead of the typical runway show format, he will show his line at his showroom via private, one-on-one appointments on September 6, the first day of NYFW.

In abandoning his usual slot, Rodriguez joins fellow New York-based designers such as Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and Joseph Altuzarra in leaving the typical New York Fashion Week calendar. Lauren recently announced he would show his collection at the garage of his Bedford, New York, home in a see-now, buy-now format, while Hilfiger and Altuzarra are skipping New York for London and Paris, respectively.

Earlier this month, Rodarte, Monique Lhuillier and Proenza Schouler, all designers with a history of showing in New York City, presented their Spring 2018 collections during the Paris couture shows.

New York Fashion Week will retain many big names and even welcome some new ones however, including Calvin Klein, Tom Ford and Rihanna’s Fenty x Puma collection.
