Montreal Fashion Week fights for "fashion capital" title

Published
Nov 18, 2010

Montreal Fashion Week
The organisers of the Montreal Fashion Week have put the dates forward for its 20th edition, taking place between 7 and 10 February 2011, just before the most important woman’s fashion weeks (New York, London, Milan and Paris).

According to the organisers, this change “aims to boost the promotion of the fashion designers and strengthen Montreal’s position as one of the fashion capitals”. “The date changes everything” says the Canadian designer Marie Saint Pierre; “The buyers and the media will not be in conflict with Europe in terms of hours and we can profit from our proximity to New York, which is ideal!”. This change in the calendar will make the designers present their collections one month in advance.

Created in 2001, Montreal Fashion Week has unquestionably won an important place in the fashion scene. The “Showroom”, an exhibition area for Canadian brands during fashion week, has certainly contributed to its blossoming. One wonders if the change of dates will be sufficient enough to earn Montreal the title of “Fashion Capital”.

The designers who will take part are yet to be confirmed and not yet divulged by the organisers.
