Micolet launches in UK, targets Germany and Italy next

Published
Jun 13, 2018

Micolet, the Spanish online secondhand clothing market, has launched in Britain having also debuted earlier in France and Portugal. The company now has plans to roll out its offer to Germany and Italy.

Micolet

The three-year-old company is based in the Bizkaia region of Spain’s Basque country and was co-founded by entrepreneur Aritza Loroño. it claims to process over 2,000 new items of clothing, footwear and accessories at its HQ on a daily basis.

Another co-founder, José María del Moral, is in charge of the European expansion programme and said the UK launch is “an important milestone in Micolet’s journey.”

The debut comes as the secondhand fashion market is booming in Britain with an increasing focus on ecology and recycling boosting consumer awareness of the potential of the fashion items sitting unworn in their wardrobes.

Del Moral added that large amounts of unwanted clothing are sitting unused, much of it hardly ever worn and reselling such items “helps to make the fashion industry more sustainable one garment at a time.”

Resale has become a very important channel for the fashion sector with  companies such Vestiaire Collective and Videdressing building huge businesses on the back of it. And of course, eBay is still a major player in this area.
