Kith holds second fashion show at NYFW

Published
Sep 11, 2017

Kith held its second fashion show on Thursday to close the first official day of NYFW. The New York City-based lifestyle brand had the difficult task of putting an exclamation point on the fashion week’s opening day, as well as surpass its fashion show from the previous year.

NBA superstar LeBron James appeared in the Kith fashion show on Thursday

Last year, Kith debuted its collaborations for the remainder of the year and held performances from Fabolous, Ja Rule, Mase and The Lox in between. This year the retailer had a similar agenda, debuting a number of collaborations with Disney, Moncler and Champion, returning collaborations with Bergdorf Goodman, Coca Cola and Off-White, and a new collaboration with Nike, which Kith Founder Ronnie Fieg said he waited his entire life for.

This year was special for it marked the debut of women’s Creative Lead Emily Oberg and also for its star-studded audience that was larger than the previous year. Tommy and Dee Hilfiger were in attendance with Virgil Abloh, Jerry Lorenzo, Sophia Richie and NBA stars Carmelo Anthony and Iman Shumpert with his wife Teyana Taylor.

The collection was quintessential Kith: streetwear, sweats and tech pants, hoodies and sweatshirts and various outerwear styles that have been available in store in the recent months. The retailer did debut soccer kits with Adidas that feature Chase and Samsung logos, which shows the brand will push itself within the confines of sportswear.

The womenswear looks were riskier—a blue loose turtleneck cable knit sweater looked like a preppy Nautica piece that was styled for cool high schoolers, and robes and dresses appeared more than once.

The show’s surprise guests were more notable than the collection. NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen walked the show, and NBA superstar LeBron James lip sung a musical performance and modeled a look from the collection.
