Jos A Bank FY08 results top Street, shares rise

April 8 (Reuters) - Jos. A. Bank Clothiers Inc (JOSB.O), a men's clothing and accessories retailer, posted better-than-expected results for the year ended January, sending its shares up more than 17 percent.

Net income was $58.4 million, or $3.17 a share, compared with $50.2 million, or $2.72 a share, a year earlier.

Net sales came in at $695.9 million, while same-store sales rose 8.9 percent.

Analysts were expecting earnings of $3.02 per share, before special items, on revenue of $674.9 million, according to Reuters Estimates.

Shares of the company were up $5.17 at $34.21 Wednesday morning on Nasdaq. (Reporting by Poojya Trivedi in Bangalore; Editing by Himani Sarkar)
